The American Public Education System... LOL

The evolution in teaching math since the 1950s:

1. Teaching Math In 1950s A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit ?

2. Teaching Math In 1960s A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

3. Teaching Math In 1970s A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. Did he make a profit?

4. Teaching Math In 1980s A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.

5. Teaching Math In 1990s A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong answers, and if you feel like crying , it's ok.)

6. Teaching Math In 2009 Un hachero vende una carretada de maderapara $100. El costo de la producciones es $80. Cuanto dinero ha hecho?

E-Rock Video Music Awards

I just watched the Beyonce video that, according to Kanye West, is the greatest video of all time and frankly I just don’t get it. For one thing, I had to look it up on the Internet because I don’t think I’ve seen a music video on MTV in 15 years. Aside from that I’ve seen some great videos in my day and frankly three chicks in leotards dancing while the camera spins around them is rather lame. Since we’re judging the video and not the musical content, I’ll spare any further commentary on how lame the song is.

I decided to compile a list of videos that are superior to the Beyonce video. I mean no disrespect to Beyonce, but Kanye started this. In no particular order here is the E-Rock list of better videos that would disqualify Beyonce’s video from its “greatest of all time” status issued by Kanye West.

1. Michael Jackson – Thriller
2. A-Ha – Take On Me
3. Tom Petty – Runnin’ Down a Dream
4. Twisted Sister – We’re Not Gonna Take It
5. Warrant – Cherry Pie
6. Robert Palmer – Addicted to Love
7. Dire Straits – Money for Nothin’
8. Buggles – Video Killed the Radio Star (this one started it all)
9. Devo – Whip It
10. Metallica – One
11. U2 – Where the Streets Have No Name
12. Madonna – Papa Don’t Preach
13. D.12 – My Band
14. Dixie Chicks – Goodbye Earl
15. Avenged Sevenfold – A Little Piece of Heaven
16. Peter Gabriel – Sledgehammer
17. Beastie Boys – Sabotage
18. Pink Floyd – The Wall (the whole movie was a music video)
19. Foreigner – I Don’t Want to Live Without You
20. Van Halen – Right Now

This is not a definitive list and I hope to get plenty of input. Comment with your additions.
